dawn-michelle...i know! i think Lowes does a lot of the stuff for the home redecorating shows and so in turn, oprah and nate mention them a million times. my dad sent me a text msg that said he saw a firepit for 50 bucks at Dick's sporting goods. but, oprah said specifically to get it at Lowes.

nate is really into "transitional spaces." he'd probably make you get a new house so you'd have an entryway to redecorate! :)

I don't like the fact that your orders include buying your firepit at Lowe's. It gives you no choice as to how much you'll spend. Is Lowe's a sponser of her show?

On the other hand, be glad she didn't say that you've got to paper your walls--that would have been a chore.

As far as the tray on the table goes, I have no entry way. You step directly from the outside right into my living room. I'm not in an apartment, just a little house. I wouldn't have room to put a table by my front door, much less a tray. Kinda like finding room for your pit.

I have to say, I think that Oprah's mail tray rule is STUPID. When I walk in my house, I hang my keys up on the hook where they belong and I deal with the mail. I toss out the recyclable junk mail, put the junk mail that requires shredding in my shred bin, stick the bills in the "to be paid" file, and hope there's love mail left to open (it's a rarity, but I still hope for it daily). This takes me all of 7 seconds. Why should I junk up my front hall table with a tray collecting mail?

kate - yes! i'm trying to figure out exactly what to do with the firepit once i buy it. i feel like i only have to take an "assignment" as far as she tells me too. wait...are you trying to tell me you want to buy a firepit off my hands? bwahahaha! seriously though, unless the new place we move has a great yard or deck for the pit, then i will make alternate plans for it.

i won't really use it for my cat's new bed. besides, he likes sleeping in my bathroom sink too much to move him!

Hi there, just thought I'd give you my two cents. I understand your wanting to follow through completely with this project. I agree and would do the same.

Oprah says, "And it's summertime and it's time to get outside. and get out over to Lowes and get yourself a firepit." But she doesn't tell you to use it. How do you feel about getting yourself a firepit, then turning around and re-selling it on Craigslist or returning it later? Or keeping it at a friend's home? Or giving it as a gift?

hey garsy, well, i was just talking to my mom about this...i hear what you're saying, of course, but part of this project is all about giving my 'free will' over to Oprah. if i could just pick what was practical, then it would be more like real life than an experiment. i totally understand your concern AND practicality (normally i'm a member of Team Logic, too) but for this year, i'm all Oprah's, whether her advice fits my lifestyle or not. and we do have a tiny teenie eensie weensy yard ... i think we'll be sitting 'round our $75 lowes firepit this summer back there! (of course, i might also just visit you in indiana...sounds idyllic!!!) xo

jen - i had the exact same suspicious thought today! i think i'm reading too much into it though. i don't know...i still feel like i'll never even register on her radar, but everytime she gives a new assignment, i wonder if she's trying to kill me. :)

Be realistic LO. What's the point of bringing something into your home that will just sit in a closet or storage space and never be used! Sure summertime is a time to get outside and enjoy all that it has to offer, but let's face it, apartment dwellers have limited space and some of Oprah's suggestions are just suberbly unpractical and simply NOT meant for some of us.

Get practical my dear. If you want to enjoy a fire pit - come visit me over here in NE Indiana. We have a firepit that we didn't spend a dime on and all the firewood comes from downed tree limbs that we gather for free or has been given to us!
