It's something like this challenge that can really make this project. How will you know if this is the path to your best life if you don't buy the tickets and go? What if it's a life-changing experience that you can't put a price on? Isn't that what you're supposed to be finding out? Let go of the worries about budget and go with Oprah's suggestion.

hey everyone! thanks for your input. it was so great to get back to my computer and see what everybody had to say.

remember, my project rules say it doesn't matter if i need what oprah says, or if her suggestion is convenient or even possible! :) i'm acting out her words literally.

lara - i'm in the same boat as you. broke, broke, broke! i guess the millions will start pouring in once i get my graduate degree, right? bwahahahaha!

seriously though, she didn't say i have to GO to vegas to see the show, but i really do feel that her words are really clear: "Get your tickets today for her spectacular production, 'Cher at the Colosseum.'" in a sick way, part of me feels like i need to do this to completely show my commitment to the project. if i "interpret" my way out of this, i think i'll lose credibility and probably feel like i've done less that 100%. do i want to buy the tickets? no. but i'm leaning toward mkc's input.

i actually would really like to see the cher show! if i had any interest in going to vegas, i'd consider it. but, i'm really not all that partial to debuachery, gambling, and hookers, so the city doesn't appeal to me that much.

garsy! you ARE the voice of practicality and you ARE so welcome here. i know my decisions must make you crazy :) but i love hearing your P.O.V. don't stop!

i also am under the gun with my decision - oprah did say to get tickets "today" so if i go through with this, it'll be before the clock strikes midnight.

my parents are coming to visit me, to celebrate the end of my grad school process and to come see a presentation i've giving. i'm going to talk with them about this. they're on their way to my home from the airport right now. garsy, my guess is that my mom will probably side with you, and mkc, my dad will lean in your direction!

i'll let you know all about it tomorrow.

I'm with Lara here. I find it sad that this project that is supposed to be making your life better is causing you financial and emotional stress. Just wait - next week she'll have Suzie on talking about managing your money and making wise financial decisions! And it was the word CAN - I watched that this afternoon, just a few minutes ago and thought "O dear - what is LO going to do with that one." So sure if you are in the area, or she is coming to your area buy the tickets - but I personally see no reason for you to travel to Nevada simply to take in a concert.

I know I'm bumming folks out with my practicality!

I think that's totally open to mkc's interpretation. You CAN buy the tickets, you know, should you be in the vicinity.

Cher's not too bad though.
Imagine if she'd said you had to buy Celine Dion tickets?
Gah! Personally I'd be sat there with industrial strength ear-plugs and a sour look on my face for the entire thing.

(By the way, I still haven't actually seen any Oprah since about 1998, so should I do your mini questionnaires?

Wow, that is quite the quandry. I would say that if Cher is not comming to your city, then you do not need to go. I agree she did say can.

But I'm totally broke, so that colours my judgement. Maybe there is something on her website about evaluating if you can afford a big ticket item?

I find it sad that you're finding this project stressful, considering the mission was to make your life better.
