Happy March. I’ve missed everyone here as I’ve been a bit swamped - busily fulfilling the marketing obligations for my book, packing up and moving to a new place, and the ups and downs of everyday life. One exciting bit of news - I’m leaving for Australia in a couple days to do some media for Living Oprah in Sydney!
I’ve decided that, upon my return, I’ll completely invest myself in fresh, new work. A couple weeks ago, I launched a project called Ready, Set...Wife! (www.readysetwife.com) and I already love it. My writing partner, Cathleen Carr, and I are fascinated by how marriage has become such a hot button issue these days. People are writing books about it, producing shows about women who want to marry millionaires, defending the institution of marriage in Washington D.C., and gossiping about celebs who have broken up after years of publicized matrimonial bliss. While working on Living Oprah, I heard from many people who had surprisingly negative opinions about Winfrey’s single status. (Um...who cares? Why is Oprah’s personal life anyone’s business but her own?)
Cathleen and I are dissecting what it means to be a wife in 2010. Although we’ve only launched the project recently, It’s been so much fun because we’ve heard from women and men, singles and marrieds, straights and gays, divorced people, widowed folks. We’re looking at wives in pop culture, politics, history, and in our own lives. Even though the roles of women have changed so drastically, why is being a wife still a goal for otherwise strong, independent women? Is a legal contract really necessary to ‘seal’ a commitment to a relationship? We are even opening up about our own feelings about being a spouse. (Poor Jim. At least he has a shoulder to cry on this time around. He should have Cathleen’s husband, Peter, on speed dial.)
Please do join me over at Ready, Set...Wife! I love your feedback, as you know, and would appreciate your thoughts on the new project.
I’m taking a page from Oprah’s book - she’s moving on because her show has run its course and I think I should, too. I have been trying to think about how I might continue the Living Oprah blog because I’ve gotten so many emails asking me to do so, but I’m just not sure how to do it in anyway that would satisfy me...or you. I loved it and I miss you, but I think it's time to call it a day. This was only intended to be a one-year project but I’ve been living with it for over two years. I don’t want to be ‘the Oprah lady’ forever or build a future based on Winfrey’s name or hard work. Continuing the blog feels like beating a dead horse, and I like horses and mean them no harm. I’ll stop check in here occasionally and let you know what’s going on with me, the book, and if there’s any Oprah-related news I am inspired to write about. (I’m actually checking in much more often on Facebook under my Living Oprah account, so if you’d like, friend me there.) Other than that, it’s time for me to keep things fresh and new.
I’d like to think even Oprah would approve.

Hi Robyn! Just wanted to say, I've really been enjoying your banner ads on the subway!
Cheers,
Elizabeth U.
Ok boo. I have missed you too.
Love the new project. Very fun. And yes, it makes me sad to see it tapering off but yes, this has probably run its course. But do keep it here! It's nice to have you check in on it (and us) every once in a while.
Cheers to you and thanks for a very fun ride!
So excited to hear about your new project! I'm going there now so I can follow this one from the start. I have about 10 pages left of your book and loved, loved, loved it and the whole concept of the Living Oprah project. See you at the new blog!
Thanks guys. See? How can I live without your support? I might shrivel up. No...seriously. It's probably true. :)
Ooo, coming to Aus? Nifty! I'd love to come say hi, are you visiting Brisbane at all?
One of the beautiful aspects of blogs is their sometimes ephemeral nature. I like that this blog rose as an outlet to your project, and agree that it is a perfect time to move forward.
Congrats on your new project. I've been happily married for nearly 30 years, although most of the time it seems as if we're the young sweethearts from long ago.
Your new blog is sure to be equally as entertaining as LO! Happy trails!
Hi. I just finished reading your book this morning -- I enjoyed learning about your experiences. I also read the posting about your new project, which I'm really interested in, so I will probably stop over there to give my two cents.
Congrats on all your success with the book!

wow av seen you on telly
Sounds like an interesting new project, I'll make sure to look at it.
Have fun in Australia!
Just wanted to let you know that we've posted a review of your book at Publish Chicago--a blog focusing on the publishers and writers of the Windy City.
Best of luck to you on your travels.
Oh, a link to the blog in case you haven't heard of it: www.PublishChicago.com
Best!
Hi Robyn! Just finished reading your book LO and I have to tell you it was fun, funny & quite the expensive experiment!! Every page turned revealed to me that I too was Living Oprah for the most part - ha! As for my marriage of 13.5 yrs. (age 40), I've learned that it's okay to be 'comfortable' with your spouse, life itself is romantic so stop trying so hard! & that our 2 children hold the keys to really living the best life!! Good luck with project Ready, Set...Wife! Jemma - ON, Canada
you helped inspire my own oprah project...so party on robyn...love your honesty...fierce self protection involves going for those choices that bring life into alignment with the heart's trajectory
best wishes, angel-star

I love this idea! I wonder if Oprah's advice would work on a Pakistani girl from a feudal family?

Hi Robyn,
Your book has just been released in Australia. PLEASE stay with us whilst we start the journey too. (Sorry, but that may be the "price" you pay for having the book now being embraced in other Countries).

Hello everyone,
Robyn just asked that I post to say that she has gotten herself into the Martha Stewart audience by waiting in the stand-by line all morning. It will be taping any moment now.
Hope you have a fun day,
Robyn's husband, Jim
HI Robyn: Loved the book. Made me realize how much Oprah has really permeated our lives. Didn't think I was even really a fan. Then realized that we all have our own O-stories. Had to write about mine too.
Good luck with the new project.
It felt timely to check in at your blog and find this most recent post. I really respect the work you've done here and with your book, and your choice to move on. Great new idea and new site!
Moving on in my life at this time has ironically meant starting a daily blog a few months ago in relation to Oprah--the emphasis in fact dovetails with what you have done and your choice to move on. I hope perhaps the Beyond Oprah blog can pick up on some themes people have found meaningful where you have left off here, and continue forth in honouring living who we authentically are.
Best,
Melissa

Loving your blog! I am in the midst of trying to live the secret, be positive, think happy thoughts. Somewhere between life, a toddler, and a messy fiance I have completely lost my marbles....
anyway, yesterday was my first blogging experience, I saw u on oprah recently and thought this would be a good spot to check out a blog. Looking forward to following, if ur interested in my newbie-blogger blog, and have any constructive critism for me that would be fantastic. When you first enter the blogging world it is impossible to know where to start. I keep checking every hour " has anyone read my blog yet?" Its a little sloppy, with part of a story I am writing, with a dab of daily events, all the while being positive and carrying a "gratitude rock" in my pocket.
Wish me luck, I think I may need it!
Cheers,
Kate from Canada

Hey! I just saw you on TV, while I should have been studying for my finals. I think it's cool what you've been doing trying to be everything Oprah wants us to be! Good luck on all your endeavors!
Sincerely,
Casey
I saw you on TV the other night and i really love your blog keep up the good work.
Hi Robyn!
just watching you on "The Oprah Effect" and wanted to applaud you on the success of such a bold move. Congratulations on your success and keep it up!

Hey I just saw your article on CNBN and I now think you're the coolest woman in the world - even before Oprah herself!
The article didn't really say when your protect would end... so I'm excited to see how things go, but how long will you go on doing this?
Hi!! I've seen your book plenty times, but didn't think to pick it up, but after seeing your story on "The Oprah Effect" I think I may give it a try. I'm happy for you, don't let anyone ever make you think you've made a silly choice. Well, you haven't so far, I don't think you will. Enjoy your success!!
I was on the Treadmill this evening and caught a snippet of your experiment on one of the nightly news shows. I don't know which one, because the only tv I watch is while I'm multi-tasking on the T. (I was also catching up with a friend texting, emailing my sister, and sending myself reminders at work for tomorrow.)
Anyway...what rang true was the comment (either you or the narrator said) about feeling a little stressed (from the pressure of living Oprah).
Oprah, Martha Stewart and now cooking shows, self improvement shows and home/life organization shows are no longer shows that I can watch for the very reason you alluded to.
I am a mother of 6 children ages 5-22 and work full-time. My life is full and rewarding...especially when I think about those who are in my life.
I was told recently that I am an "over-functioner." This, Living Oprah, is much different than "over achieving."
I live my life to the fullest...and although I appreciate tips on improving my quality of life, I recognize that I am the only barometer for determining what that is.
Oprah is the center of a cult.
Obviously, a clever person and a consummate actress.
I find it disturbing that so many people, for such a long time, follow her and extol her virtues, because frankly, I don't see anything especially virtuous about her. To me she looks like and sounds like a very conceited person.
Her greatest accomplishment is her own celebrity.
Her famous "generosity" is a sham.
She is now and always has been the prime beneficiary of all her charitable work. I've heard she's a good tipper. But, frankly, I think that's what's really at the bottom of her fame.
She and her subordinates have discovered a formula for "spreading the wealth" and in my opinion she has merely bought everyone off.
She came on the scene in the late '70's when black rights and women's rights were all the rage. To criticize Oprah at that time would lead to accusations of sexism and racism. Therefore she seemed immune to any reasonable scrutiny.
Back then she received awards for journalism, but the entire format of her program was plagiarized from Phil Donahue.
What she really is, is a Master Salesperson. That's what people on TV do. They sell stuff. And, she's very good at that.
But, all the praise she receives baffles me because in my heart, I know she does not deserve it.
She has found a way to exploit a niche in our society and has really just taken advantage of millions of people (mainly women) who have no imagination or sense of purpose in their lives.
Her style of journalism, if you can call it that, is mainly just some type of gossip program..........that does not really inform so much as it titillates.
I find it depressing that she has created an audience of screaming fanatics, who seem to be looking for some cheap trinket or the chance to bask in their 15 minutes of fame, that Oprah might bestow upon them.
How anyone can get away with publishing a magazine and putting herself on every single cover issue published is beyond my comprehension. Doesn't anyone else beside me consider this an obscene form of egotism?
I wish people would snap out of it.
What has she really done? What has she really accomplished?
The diets she promoted many year ago, when her program first took off, had no effect. America is fatter in 2010 than ever.
Nothing she has promoted has ever had any real lasting benefit to our country. The only ones who have benefited have been her private entourage and herself.
She is considered to be a journalist but has only "revealed" so much useless information. Like I have to know all about my neighbor's sex life. But, she lives in a world of privilege and because she has become so wealthy lives in a cocoon of privacy.
What's wrong with our country that someone as egotistical and opportunistic as her could rise to such heights.
Personally, I'll be exceedingly happy when she finally fades from view.
To all you Oprah fans, out there.........GET A LIFE! Please!

Hey Robyn, how is the book stuff coming? I do miss your regular emails, it was such a hoot to follow your life according to Oprah, but you are probly happy to be back to your private life. What a great influence you have been on the average woman needing a bit of motivation to live their own lives also.
Cheers, Meg
I couldn't agree with you!" Oprah always says (and she mentioned it yesterday) that the hardest job in the world is being a mom. Oprah loves Mom Couture as well and I found a deal to make any diva mom happy half off! You should check out https://tippr.com/offer/promom-couture/
Oprah's beginning a new show and they are currently looking for participants! Check it out here: http://bit.ly/dsm4KQ
