Golly G

I've written this post about today's Oprah about women/porn/erotica over and over again, but every time I try, it ends up sounding like sexual innuendo. While it's making me giggle, I'm going to stay respectful (even though it's killing me) and keep this short.

Oprah's discussion with Jenna Jameson was fascinating. I did laugh when Jameson said while she always enjoyed fellatio and that her female fans thank her for improving their own skills in that area, she isn't a professional (I'm paraphrasing here)...Oprah said if Jenna isn't a professional, then she doesn't know who is. Hilarious. Too true. I think Jameson was saying she's not a prostitute, maybe?

It was an honest discussion and as specific as possible without being the least bit specific. You could tell that Jameson was trying to edit herself as she was detailing what it meant for a male porn actor to be bad at his job.

Being a porn star has earned Jameson her dream life. I have some Salvador Dali posters in my home...she's got framed originals hanging on her walls. She showed off her yachts, her cars, her mansion. I guess I worry that young girls might see this and aspire to it. I don't know a lot about the industry, but I have to assume that her lifestyle is rare for women in porn.

Jameson certainly looks to have built herself into an incredible success in a traditionally male-run business. There are some parallels to Oprah, who also dominates her own field. I'm not trying to be cute here - I mean it. I do admire women who build themselves and their careers from nothing. It takes guts, hard work, intelligence and so much more...

Today's show was more focused on why a female audience appreciates porn, rather than an exposé on the industry itself. We learned on the episode that 1 out of 3 purveyors of porn online are women. Clearly this topic speaks to many of us gals, as is evidenced by the fact that it ended up on Oprah's show. She told us, there is a great article in O magazine on this topic. I'm going to check it out...

While I found this morning's show provocative, I was even more turned on by promotions for Thursday's show about how to give your man a makeover. Now THAT'S hot.

Commenting is kinda quiet on this one... I'll admit that I know who Jenna Jameson is, but I really am not interested in checking out her professional work. I like these provocative topics so much more than makeovers!

I like that Jenna takes full responsibility for the path she chose in life. She acknowledges that she had other options, but ultimately chose this one, and it is a choice. She doesn't blame anyone for the decision that she made to be in porn.

She is very open and honest with identifying her goals, and how she achieved them. She seems to be a person who tries to better her environment, no matter what that might be.

What happened to her first marriage? I know the 2nd man she married was already married with a child and was unfaithful. No comments were made about lifestyle other than how much money she could make!

That's interesting to know that one out of three purveyors of porn are women. That kind of boggles my mind.I do know that with the prevalence of the internet in homes, child trafficking for porn is way up all over the world, which sickens me. I have nothing against adults who choose to make a career in porn, though. I wonder why there isn't more porn out there that is targeted to women, then? Playgirl folded, after all.

I'll admit that I'm not one of the one in three who has watched an erotic movie. That said, after yesterday's show and the comments about Jenna's movie The Massuese--I might be willing to try. I'd also consider reading her book.

I like Jenna. She seems smart and nice. I'm sorry that her early life was hard (which I know about from watching her E true hollywood story). Her mom died when she was young and that makes me think of other powerful, famous ladies who were raised by their dads (like Rosie O'Donnell and Madonna). I'm glad that she was finally able to have children since it's something she really wanted.

I'm married and open-minded (and 30years old to give you a frame of reference) but I grew up feeling like sex was about power and somehow dirty and not something that good girls liked or did. I've enjoyed Oprah's shows with Dr Berman trying to teach women to enjoy their sexuality. I feel happy and lucky to be me and not repressed, but I also can't say that I'm out there doing anything wild (or likely to be). I hope that there can be a happy medium for future generations of girls between going to far and never getting out there. (I could go on and on but I'll stop for now.)

I really like Jenna. Her book is great, How To Make Love Like a Porn Star. I have a lot of respect for her. And I have purchased some of her movies as gifts.

You should check her book out, really. I am sad I missed this show.

Hey Robyn,
I joined your Living Oprah FB fan page months ago and I told you that I relocated to Chicago to look for work and (jokingly) to get on the Oprah Show.

Well I haven't found a job yet but I did get on Oprah as an invited guest on the Porn Show (Pro-Porn Watcher). Funny thing is that it was from a questionnaire that I filled out when I was still living in South Carolina depressed as hell.

I was in the front row two seats away from Lisa Ling and Jenna J in a bright fucshia sweater. Oprah decided not to ask our questions on air but during commercial breaks and after the show. She was great and I'm planning to post my pic with her soon on FB.

Just to show you the power of Oprah, one of the other guests is in the field (advertising) that I'm trying to break into so I gained a new friend and a networking contact.

The show was a lot of fun especially the pre-show when people talked about their porn habits. After the show I got into a heated debate with a woman who tried to say that my porn watching/making own porn skills would make a man decide whether I was "wife" or "one night stand" material and Oprah was fascinated. Jenna Jameson and Lisa Ling are very nice.

Nosey! Welcome and thanks a ton for sharing your experience on the show. I loved reading about it. Too cool. I hope your Chicago job hunt goes well and FAST. I know how rough it is out there right now and I wish you all the best. xo
