Hi all. This week was a busy one for me. I was lucky enough to record the audiobook for Living Oprah. I have to tell you, this was a dream come true for me. I’ve always wanted to record audiobooks, I just never knew how to break into the business. It turns out you have to write your own book! Going into the studio everyday and reading my book into a microphone was a blast. It turned a little Zen: being in a tiny airless room all by myself, concentrating so much on the words in front of me. As a person who is used to being onstage in front of an audience, it was a really new experience to have to perform in a vacuum. I don’t mean to sound cheesy, but I imagined I was telling all of you these stories. It kept me relaxed and made it very fun. The only bummer was that you couldn’t respond back!
I only caught half the show today, but will go back and see the entire thing. Although I didn’t choose to watch any of the lead up to Oprah’s big karaoke challenge, I did watch the finale. You know what’s funny? I do the same thing with shows like The Bachelor. Jim and I don’t view that series, but we always tune into the final show. Anyhow, I’m interested to hear what you thought if you saw any of the previous performances. The guy who won sounded pretty good. What a crazy dream come true that must have been! One day, you’re innocently singing karaoke in a bar, the next, you’re given a quarter million dollars and a future in the recording business. What a world we live in. What possibilities.
I am really interested in today’s segment with Robin Givens. I’ve only seen the last few minutes so far and I’ll be going back to watch the entire thing...I thought Oprah’s apology was touching, but I don’t know the entire context yet, so I’m going to withhold judgment until I see the complete interview. I feel like Oprah’s been opening up about a lot of stuff lately...she seems less guarded than I’ve seen her in a while. What do you think?
Finally, I can’t wait to see Stephenie Meyer’s interview. I was at my publisher’s offices last week and there were giant framed posters of her book covers everywhere. It inspired me. As those of you who are friends with me on Facebook know, I had a weird dream that my book was accidentally released as vampire fiction. In my dream, there were a lot of angry readers when they discovered Living Oprah had nothing to do with the Living Dead. I think I’ve been watching too much True Blood lately.

I actually watched the Meyer interview. It was in self defense since I have to work tomorrow. I was surprised that Oprah was so fluffy with her. Have you read the books?
Also, did you get the email I sent you a few days ago or did I send it wrong?
Hey Celia, I emailed you back yesterday. I think it was your husband's email address that I responded to. Let me know if you see it. I have to say, your email made my heart sing. Yes, that sounds dramatic, but I mean it. Your support has been invaluable through this. I hope you are doing well! xoxoxo robyn
PS. Nope - haven't read the Twilight series. I actually don't really read YA, but am trying to since several friends write it.
I believe Oprah is at her very best, emotionally and spiritually, especially the last couple of years, and this year in particular. She is confident enough in herself as a person, to apologize if she feels she might have been in error or misjudged a situation. I also love to see the smile on her face when she presents a prize or even more so when she recognizes someone is "rising to the top of their game." I think the term as been tagged "joy rising." We are all human, no one is perfect but she is truly an honorable and beautiful human being.
How exciting about the audiobook!
I understand the concept somewhat of why you're creating this blog, but dont you think your making Oprah out to be a godlike figure?!! Do you ever consider the possibility that to some people, this may be sending the wrong message?
All the folks back in NH can't wait for January 4th! Will you be coming back for book signing?
