This is like when my dad tried to breakdance when I was 13

Hi y'all - I've been trying to check in on Fridays, but had to jump the gun because I just saw this on Facebook:

"Oprah's now on Twitter! Don't miss her very first Tweet this Friday on the Oprah Show!"

I think I'm too old for Twitter...so I can't imagine Oprah doing it. Do you think she'll hire a special 16-year old assistant in charge of Tweeting?

How are you too old for twitter? You aren't too old for the interwebs.

hey I'm older than you (I think) and I tweet!!!! Tweeting is fun. It's like facebook without all the application requests.

Bee, Ah, I love the term interwebs. I don't know - Twitter seems like a kid thing. It seems like only kids have enough time on their hands to tell everyone what they are doing every 5 minutes. Or...am I missing the point of Twitter? And if so, doesn't the fact that I'm missing the point of Twitter make me too old for Twitter?! xo LO

Houseof, NO WAY?!?! You Tweet! Is it like the front page of Facebook? What do you Tweet?

I don't get it. I think it makes sense for companies and celebrities, even politicians, but I just don't see the point for normal people like myself. I don't think I have anything to say or do that's important for anyone to know right at that very second.

Oh my goodness LO, you are NOT too old for Twitter! Twitter is a mix between blogging, IMing, and text messaging. My friends and I use it all the time and love it. It's great for us to communicate with each other because we're all on it and so we send a tweet to one place and we all get it. We don't necessarily update all day, but it's really convenient.

Twitter, schmitter. You saw your dad breakdance?

My juvenile mind just thinks things like Twittering and Googeling sound like they should be done in private *LOL*

I too feel that since "I don't get it" I'm probably too old. I'm on facebook under duress and I'm horrible about checking it.

I figure I have email, why do I need another medium to yak thru, but I see the point of how nice it is that everyone can go to your site, see pic.s or what not and get an update on your life.
Its socializing with out really having to socialize.

I also think all of these communication devices are akin to when we all use to pass notes in school! Do kids even do that anymore?

I'm not on it myself, but just read that the largest group of Twitter users are 35-39. Guess we're not too old after all!

I love twitter and think it's actually a fantastic networking tool. When I moved to Cincinnati last June and could not find a job (and I am still under-employed) as a law librarian and met/followed several other librarians. My professional association is also on twitter. It really keeps me up to date with what's going on until the economy gets better.

Also fantastic about twitter is that I've made actual real life friends through it. In Cincinnati, we have tweetups where you meet each other in person.

One last great thing, is that sometimes I get first hand news from twitter. People often tweet things as they witness them. One of the people from the Hudson plane crash tweeted photos and accounts of what was going on as it was happening.

I do have to say the celebrity tweets can be lame. I don't think I would really follow Ashton Kutcher or Demi Moore.

Twitter is for everyone. I personally use it for information, and subscribe to a lot of news organizations, but I also like to read what celebrities are talking about. I've met a lot of interesting people there, too. It's fun, and you don't have to be sending out a lot of tweets all day to participate.

Nice new banner, LO.

Sigh....sounds like I'll have to twitter, now. It's called defensive mothering - my kids will be doing it soon, so I have to be ahead of the curve.

I am on twitter less to post and more to read. I think O on Facebook is enough for me.
Oh, LO, I missed you today though--I thought Laura Berman--Dr. Berman--was brilliant today with the kids who are considering having sex (at age 14) and would have loved to have seen a post from you on that. Also would have loved your thoughts on the motherhood episode. Sigh.
Anyway. Enjoying your return to posting! And I'm not really pithy enough to be an effective tweeter but I do love the updates from the people/organizations I follow.
Happy weekend!

Hey! They totally stole this from you! To be cribbed by the Onion--you are way out of my league!

Miss LO

Yes I tweet... what I like about it is that I don't have to deal with all the application requests that seem to constantly stream across my facebook page. I can be in and out, post what I want (within 140 chatacters) and be done with it. So yeah, it's just like the front of facebook but quicker. :)

BTW, I agreed with Ashton Kusher when he said that it can be a tool for communicating things quickly. I was really surprised by the number of recent news events where information was passed through twitter first.

I'm a tweeter too. It always makes me smile, because a 'twit' is an idiot in Australia. Luckily they've called the posting 'Tweets' or I may have peed.

My teenaged cousins are baffled by Twitter. Most of the people I know on there are my age and older (33). I even got my dad hooked! I actually have gotten closer to my Dad than I have been since I was a kid through Twitter. We wouldn't call each other 5 times a day to stay informed of each other's activities, but through Twitter, it's happening!

I also twitter and yes, there was definite "fail whale" when Oprah started twittering. (http://www.whatisfailwhale.info/)

i am 23 and have no interest in twitter whatsoever. I had created an account and promptly deleted it after 2 weeks of almost not using it. I am already annoyed that i have had to switch facebook instead of myspace, i cant imagine what it would be like having to switch to twitter
