Is you-know-who messing with us?

Ok, run, don't walk, to the cover of your O Magazine. Is it just me or is Oprah blowing bubbles with her (now infamous in our 2008 discussions) silver, Tiffany bubble blower?! It's like she's taunting us with it!

Ah, I had to laugh when I saw that. It made me think fondly of the comments and emails I received about that show. For those of you who didn't see it or who aren't sure what the heck I'm talk about, I think the emotion was best summed up by Christy in a February 2008 comment:

"...I was so struck by the notion that Oprah's employee gave her a gift that she didn't even recollect ever having SEEN before, much less remember getting. And then I was further struck that Oprah talked about it as if that was a perfectly natural thing to admit. She didn't even act horrified that she had accidently admitted to said employee that she had no clue where the bubbles came from or that she hadn't even noticed that they had been sitting there all along.

I couldn't enjoy the rest of the show because I was too wrapped up in sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for Oprah to apologize or explain why she hadn't known about the gift. Hours later, I still haven't recovered from the whole Bubble Incident."

How did I miss that one as I went through the archives?! (I know I caught on later than February last year.)
Hey, if you had a silver bubble wand, wouldn't YOU want to use it?!
I liked that she yanked the Columbine show today. It's a hard topic and good for her to pull it despite flogging it big-time on Twitter and Facebook.

Discovered your blog this morning on Foodie Blog Roll. Loved it. I finally had to stop reading to feed my son breakfast (kids are so selfish).

Hi there!

My friend used to work for Oprah in a management capacity. Oprah receives at least 100 gifts a week from people she doesn't even know and all are acknowledged by her assistants with hand-written notes (that they write) not just form letters of thanks with an automated signature of Oprah's.

If an employee comes into her office and just leaves a small object in her absolutely huge office (that is the size of a "regular person's" two-bedroom apartment) then I can understand why she would not see it.

Why didn't the employee tell her "I left a box for you on the couch table near the window."

Those staffers know how huge her office is!

Hmmmmph.

Oprah is running a billion-dollar enterprise with a 19-hour day and these random staffers think she's soooo bored in her office that she will notice a tiny little box in the room that her assistants probably pushed off to the side (which was appropriate) to put other action files on her desk?

She is a corporate executive, not just a television celebrity. She comes to her office to work with her mind on work, not to open up gifts. Her schedule is extremely tight.

And all THAT means Oprah is the one who is insensitive?

It's amazing how some of the "regular folks" try to interpret her behavior through the lens of how THEIR lives are rather than how Oprah's life is....

Oh by the way... I didn't say...

I love your blog!!! *smiles*

Sorry, I just jumped in with my long-winded comment!

{hand shakes} I'm Lisa, by the way. Nice to meet you.

I agree! You must live some life when a TIFFANY SILVER bubble blower that someone gives you goes completely unnoticed. Especially if it's from someone who you KNOW has less money than you (but then of course, 99% of the population has less money than Ms. O).

If I got a gift from ANYONE that was from Tiffany's, I would sure as heck notice -- and remember!
