I feel like I ran a marathon. The summer repeats almost made my head explode, but I'm thrilled, cranium intact, to have made it through! I'm fascinated to see the new season. Will there be a new set? What will the new Oprah's Book Club selection be (please, oh please be fiction)? Will Oprah use her show as a platform for Barack Obama? Will Oprah continue to tell her audience what we "must" do/buy/wear/believe? I'm on the edge of my seat.
Gearing up for the new season, I'm going to spend every free moment I have this weekend (when not doing my Best Life Challenge, completing Oprah-assigned tasks AND teaching several classes at work) doing project housekeeping. I need to get clear on my numbers again and I know many of you are eager to know exactly how much Living Oprah has cost me in the first 8 months. My goal is to get this online for you late Monday night.
I want to start viewing the new shows without worrying that I have a list a mile long to complete...however, part of me is terrified to see a concrete list of what I still have left to do. Although 4 months seems like a decent length of time, I actually feel as if I'm in the homestretch and the finish line is in view. It'll be a big 120-days or so and I'm excited to conclude this project in a really strong manner.
That's all I have to say because today's show about genius kids felt like Groundhog Day. The movie, not the actual holiday. Is it me, or did this episode get played 87 times this year? Never before have super-adorable children depressed the beejeebers out of me.
And with that...
Have a great weekend!

Congrats on making it through the re-runs! Oprah reruns are like bad sex, it's not the worst thing I've ever endured, but I'd rather be doing something else and my mind tends to wander.....
I'll be with you in this brave new season.
Three cheers for the new season! I am looking forward to seeing your costs associated with your LO experiment. Is that the right word? Experiment?
jurl--LOL, ain't THAT the truth!!!
Good for you. Go girl.
I am curious to know how much Oprah is costing.
Will you give us a fourth-quarter update on all the loose ends? How was your skin after the 30 days? Have you bought new lamps for your home-- how do they look? Did you ever buy the jean jacket-- have you worn it? Have you seen any results from the Best Life Challenge exercise routine? How did you like the books you've read? What did your husband think of the couples stuff you have tried? Did you ever buy the fire pit? What other recipes have you tried? Do you look at your vision board everyday and what does that do for you, if anything? Give us details on the rolfing. I guess I'm eager for an update on all the stuff you've actually done and how you've felt about it and what feedback you've gotten from others, rather than just pure reflection on the bigger themes of the Oprah show.
I'm with Juliette. I soo want to know how everything's going. Rolfing, exercising, shopping, meditating, eating only certain foods, focusing on your marital relationship, reading books and magazines, getting away for weekends, going to the movies with your friends (who may not even be the *right* friends), looking for new friends...you should have LOTS of time left over to do your calculations and give us updates, right? ;>)
jurl, you crack me up, gal.
mtv, sure, why not? i call it an experiment!
anniegirl1138, you got it.
juliette, cool beans! i'm so glad you're interested. i will ABSOLUTELY do a 4th quarter update. and i'm hearing you about giving you the scoop on how everything's going. i will make sure you have that info! (yes, i have worn the white denim jacket and i cannot believe i'm saying this, but it's mildly cute)
dawn-michelle, haha! yeah, i'm ROLLING in time right now. i've got free time coming out my ears! :)

LO -- I think you are succeeding in Living Oprah. As your last post showed, you seem as overwhelmed as Lady O herself in your attempt to lead a fulfilling, inspired, self-actualized life. There's so many exercises, tasks, journal-writing, meditating, reading, etc., you both have to to do "balance" your lives, you both end up exhausted!
anon, very funny. too true. on january 1, 2009...I'M SLEEPING IN!!! xoLO
LO, I'm anxiously awaiting new season although the first week's shows aren't exciting me. Is it un-American to be so over the Olympians? That was weeks ago and I think NBC and MSN showed me all I need to see.
Do you think we'll see a "very special appearance" by a possible future President? O has been strangely quiet about her support of late and I didn't see her at the Demo convention. Hmmm...guess we'll see :)
yo bobono! i think you're as patriotic as your javelin-loving, greco-roman wrestling cheering, syncronized diving worshipping brethren. :) oprah was at the DNC - she loved obama's speech so much, she wept until her false eyelashes fell off. ew. but i've been wondering the same...will she have obama back?! we'll see...
xoLO
I thought about getting a white jean jacket, but couldn't find one. Where did you get yours?
I skipped a lot of the reruns, but am also looking forward to the new episodes starting soon!
Down under we usually get Oprah at random, I mean, they mix old stuff with not so old stuff, but we never get to see episodes as she makes them. You know what I mean? As in, chances of us seeing the first episode of the new season will be in like a month after America. Very frustrating!!!!!
I love Oprah but I dont think I'd be able to do what you're doing, I cannot imagine the stress, I cant even begin to imagine Oprah's itinerary for a single day!!!! There was a time she was talking about how her PA crams meetings into her schedule, back to back, and how she sighs when she goes back upstairs after a taping to find a long queue of people waiting to talk to her.
I'm dumbfounded by her sometimes, she preaches about having a life of fulfillment yet, stresses and does so much that she gets run down, I think she's a classic example of not practising what she preaches. Imagine just how much harder her life will be when she starts OWN next year!!!! Oy!!

P.S yes, I'm curious about how much its costing to live 'the best life'.
Yes, congrats on your hard work. I too am curious about your numbers.
And hurray, for the new season. Over the years I usually don't watch during the summer and the too-many other repeat stretches during the year. In interviews Oprah usually states she does 200 episodes a year, but that just can't be as the winter holiday season and the entire summer are generally repeats. Sadly, the best episodes are almost never re-run.
Ah, but a new season awaits. . . and I'll be watching along with you! Best wishes.
tabby Oprah does have a busy life, but at the same time I imagine she has lots of time off. The show only takes her 5 hours a week. She only writes one column a month for the magazine, plus she has the whole summer off, christmas break etc. The school in africa must be quite draining though.
Hello LO! I heard you on the radio this morning and you were a lot of fun to listen to. I'm excited to follow you on this adventure (event though you are 8 months into it!)I admire what you're doing and think it's quite an undertaking...What's the book you recommended this morning by Peter Walsh? I'd love to by it.
Thanks,
Erica in Boston
Great
Hey Boston Erica, I'm so happy you enjoyed the interview! I'm from New Hampshire, originally, so I was so happy to do an interview in good ol' New England! The book I mentioned is It's All Too Much. If you're like me, and need major help in the decluttering territory, I think you'll enjoy this! Best, LO
madelyn - i got mine at Macy's (online) - i think it was the Style & CO brand - their inhouse brand.
tabby - that's so interesting about the mixing of the episodes! i bet that changes the experience of watching the show. thanks for letting me know about that. yup - she's crazy busy. she mentions it all the time.
anon - i agree - the shows i'd really like to watch again aren't ever rerun. wassup with that?! i put the accounting on the site...hope it satisfies!
hiya morepower! - well, the shows take about 2-3 hours to tape (plus all the preparation she does - ie reading a whole book, watching a film, reading medical info, etc). and she usually tapes more than one a day. and tv takes endless planning. plus, she's the CEO of a gazillion dollar company...even when the show is off season, i'm guessing she has endless days. having said that, i'm also sure she can take luxuious vacations that aren't even in our imagining! (ok, ok...we can DREAM). i think though, between the show, her publishing company, the magazines, the philanthropy, the radio station, the new network, her film/tv production company, her bookclub, all the advertising/voice over she needs to do weekly, the public appearances, etc...she's probably got a WAY busier week than me. (well, until this project, at least!)
best,
LO
