Need stress relief

In the past several days, I've learned that our education system, our health system, our financial system and our children are all broken in this country. I need something to relieve the anxiety I'm feeling. Before this project began, I would have been tempted to stick my head in the sand. Maybe order some thai food and curl up on the couch to watch some bad tv or immerse myself in a great book. What can I say -- I'm much more discerning about my reading than my television.

HOWEVER, as you know, whenever discomfort arises in my life this year, I turn to Oprah.com to heal all my ills. Or not. I typed the word "anxiety" into the search box on her website and was rewarded with 200 articles in return. For a week, I will invest myself in the first two results which seemed most applicable to how I'm feeling and my situation. I'll let you know how they turn out.

1. I am going to change the way I wake up and face the day, based on this article. This is really perfect since I'll watch Oprah later in the morning, after I complete these exercises.

2. Like many of you, I can definitely carry my anxiety in my body. When I'm super-stressed, I wear my shoulders as earrings. So this self-massage tension-diffuser should be an interesting addition to my day. I will video myself doing this one (don't worry, it's not dirty massage!) and give you a review of how it works for me. I'll start this one tonight.

Suze Orman was on the show today - doing more of her sassy financial interventions. I thought Oprah was especially interested in the segment about the sister who was sucking her sibling and mother dry. Oprah passionately shared that she's felt like her family has treated her like a bank in the past. I betcha when she became OPRAH, cousins she didn't even know she had came out of the woodwork to ask for money. I wonder if I might be related to her. I could use some help buying the ergonomic gardening supplies she told us we needed.

Thanks for pointing out the neck exercise! I still have neck problems once in a while (usually when I stress out at work and obtain those "shoulder earrings" that you refer to -- LOL) and it's just starting coming back. I've been trying to become more aware of what my body is telling me, and I'm taking more frequent breaks -- even if it's just for a minute -- to focus on relaxing my shoulders/neck when I feel tension. I'm going to try that neck exercise tonight!

I'll give those Shiatsu exercises a try as I, too, suffer from "shoulder earrings;" although, at my house they're called "turtle neck." :>)

I would like to take Suze Orman out for dinner so we could go over my finances.

Though, I fear she would slap me senseless and yell at me like the father in that TWISTED SISTER video..."WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE??"

I wanna rock.

But, I bet after she looked over all my credit reports she'd insist on paying for the meal!

Don't let the woes of the world weigh you down. Maybe a nice Oprah turkey burger would cheer you up. It's made with Major Grey's Chutney!

Yeah, qraig, and maybe Lo should wash that burger down with one of Oprah's favorite pomegranate martinis.

hey qraig and betty - it would even LESS stressful to go to a restaurant and have someone else make those for me! i think the burger took something crazy like 4 hours to make. besides, it's hard to do self-shiatsu massage with raw ground turkey all over my hands! can i get an EWWWWWWW??!!! xoLO

I think the best stress-releiver ever revealed on an Oprah show is the art of self-pleasuring. Pretty sure it works better than neck exercises.
