An Oprah Cornucopia (An Opracopia?)

Lots of biz to chat about today...

So, I made Oprah's favorite turkey burger's last night. These are the ones from Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago that Oprah told us she wanted everyone to "experience" during her Favorite Things for summer episode. The burgers ended up costing us about 35 dollars in ingredients. Mom? Could someone help my mom off the floor? She passed out when she read I spent 35 dollars on sandwiches. Actually, the huge cost was due to the fact I really don't like to eat meat that isn't organic, so my better half nicely went to Whole Foods to pick up the 4 pounds of ground meat that the recipe called for. $27.82. Mom? You ok?

I watched the last half of yesterday's show this morning. Lots o' time and money demands to fulfill to Oprah's suggestions:

1. "I think everybody should have a little garden, no matter where you live." (Husband and I discussing possibility of a window box in our new apartment or indoor herb garden as we're not allowed to change the yard in our building.)

2. "You need a garden tote."

3. "You need an ergonomic tool set."

4. "You need a bloom box tiny little tin."

5. "You need the Inspired book from Jamie Durie."

6. "And you also need a 150 gift card from Lowes..." (this was to go into the "Summer in a Box" garden basket she gave out to her audience, but I suppose I'll get myself one and finally buy my Oprah-advised firepit with it.

I'm sorta speechless, but I guess I'll figure out how to budget this out with my husband as we're eating leftover turkey burgers tonight.

Today's show was about the "secret behind The Secret" - or as some of you regular readers will remember, the "bubble blower debacle" episode that made several of our heads explode. It made me giggle with delight to see it again and remember your comments and emails. If you can still catch the show later today, PLEASE do - when you see the whole discussion about bubbles, you'll know what made several of us fall off our chairs.

I actually really like much of the "Law of Attraction" episode and I do believe in it to some extent, especially where it isn't just about attaining "things" to fill up our lives.

Oprah advised: "Everybody think about this: on the way to work or on the way to do whatever you do during the day...how many negative things....the negative tape that's playing in your head all day long about yourself. 'I can't do that, I shouldn't do that, I'm too fat, oh look at my thighs..." (I will do this tomorrow on my way to work!)

So that's that for today. I'm doing a lot of accounting today, so hopefully I'll have that for public viewing soon. I have so much information I'd like to give you and so little space to do it in this blog. I am trying to figure out how I can "embed" this Blogger blog into a regular webpage so I can add additional pages of facts and figures. If anyone has advice for me, I'd love to hear it. Please email livingoprah@live.com. Thanks!

What did you think of the turkey burgers? I printed out the recipe, but haven't had a chance to try it yet. Also, that chutney that went along with it looked like it would be hard to find.

the burgers were pretty good - my husband said he felt like they "transcended" burgers and were a different food altogether. they took about an hour of prep time, then need to "set" for 2 hours before cooking, so make sure you've got the time carved out.

the chutney was in the "ethnic" section of whole foods - with the Indian items. i also read you can find it in some supermarkets with the pickles/condiments. i used the chutney in the burgers and then also made the "mar-a-lago" chutney (with the baked diced pears and raisins, etc) to use as a topping.

all in all, pretty darn tasty. but definitely a treat, rather than an everyday experience!

You could import it into a wordpress blog. They let you do separate pages. It will import the whole blog, including the comments. I use wordpress for all three of my blogs. www.wordpress.com

hey laurajeanette - i appreciate the advice. i've gotten good reviews about wordpress & typepad. makes me wish i had gone to one of them before blogger. i'll do my research this weekend and make a choice. i'd like to launch the new "site" at the beginning of july. i have a bunch of info i want to make public about the time/money costs, etc. that just doesn't work with blogger's capabilities. anyway, thank you so much for the suggestion! best, LO

are the apples necessary? i really don't like fruit (or nuts) in my food.

gemma, honestly, you don't really taste the apples - they just serve to really keep the turkey meat super moist since lean ground turkey tends to get dry. i bet you could do without, but i have to say, it all worked well together! best, LO
