Oh sadness. As if watching the puppymill episode wasn't horrifying enough the first time around, it was more depressing at second viewing. My husband was really taken aback by viewing the tribute to Oprah's dog, Sophie. He felt like it was a much too private moment to display, and had the feeling he was intruding on Oprah's grief. I agreed with him - I found it really uncomfortable. Isn't that crazy? I keep hoping we'll see some genuine emotion from Oprah and then I'm totally turned off when I view it. Although, I have no desire to see Oprah in pain, just connected and truly empathetic. Also, I am so used to expecting Oprah to be cool and removed and dispassionate, her intense sadness over losing her dog was a shock.
If you haven't yet read any of the discussion from yesterday - I urge you to read each other's comments. I am really impressed and excited by all the input. I think this is a lively discussion I'd like to continue as this project wears on. Hixx's comment about Oprah's ups and downs in popularity really struck home. Like Madonna, this woman knows how to reinvent herself and her show. I don't think this dip in popularity will snowball into Oprah's disappearance, that's for certain. I think we can all breathe easy - she'll be ok. You know...because we were all worried she'd be down-and-out, calling us to borrow a few bucks or begging to sleep on our couches.
