Today's show launched an ambitious project to inspire and inform American kids to be activite humanitarians in developing countries. It was definitely inspirational and I think if I had kids who were the appropriate age, I'd figure out how to involve them in the program. As my husband and I are D.I.N.K.s, I've chosen to make a donation instead. (We were told if we wanted to help, but didn't have kids or an affiliation with a school, we could use the link on Oprah.com to give money).
I was so disappointed to see that there are reruns filling up the rest of my week. Of course, I'll be watching, trying to glean more nuggets of Oprah's wisdom to apply to my own life, but let's face it, it's a drag. I wonder if this means that rerun season has formally begun or if there will be occasional new shows on Mondays...anyone out there privy to this info? Help a girl out, if you know...
I'm disappointed that Oprah hasn't been checking in regularly on her 21-Day Cleanse blog (or, at least, they aren't updated online yet). I was also a bit bummed to see she's still eating food prepared by Chef Tal. I'd like her to try to plan and make a couple meals on her own. For all the yummy things I've created over the past week, I've also made some total honkers. I'm doing better though, and getting into the swing of things. I don't actually eat very much meat in my 'regular' life and I haven't actually craved it at all...UNTIL...the Memorial Day barbecues kicked into action in my 'hood. I can count on one hand how many times I've eaten red meat in the past several years, but boy oh boy, whoever is grilling meat outside right now is making me salivate like Scooby Doo over Scooby Snacks. Mmmm...charred meat...
Enough!
I've got to shut my window and go drain my tofu.

Hi LO,
What would you say is an appropriate age for kids to watch the show today? Do you think an 8 year old is too young? It's not on here for about 3 more hours & since my dd is home, I could watch it with her.
hey mkc, yup - totally appropriate. there were kids that age in her studio audience. enjoy! LO
reruns = total bummer.
happy memorial day!
we too haven't eaten red meat in say...at least six years. but damn, when that cow on a grill is cookin' i can't help but want it--but i know i'd hate it if i had to eat it...but the SMELL!
we're having chicken tacos for dinner. yum!
ioio, yeah, isn't that smell crazy-magnetic?! i did a tofu stir-fry with a mango/chili/soy marinade i just invented. i liked it!
i'm kind of off red meat now because of the whole environmental-impact thing. i have finally got some education in how hard cattle is on the atmosphere, so i don't feel right about eating it...
have a happy memorial day! xoLO
hey!
Well I watched with my eldest as we folded laundry together. As inspiring as this was, my eldest was disappointed. His biggest complaint was "What are we doing for people right in our own country - children right here in the USA and Canada that are in need too!?"
Now this is my child that is BIG into volunteering and giving of himself and his time and resources. He did mention that he was going to mention this program to his homeroom teacher at school this week. It's the last week of school tho and next year he'll be at another building so we'll have to wait and see if anything comes of it.
All you non-red meat eaters would HATE me! Had great steakburgers on the grill over the weekend! YUMMY!
But that is a RARE occurance. Lots of chicken eaten in this house. I need to go and get the chicken in the crockpot now!
Blessings,
Garsy
Eat the meat!
garsy, i think your son has a great point and it's fab he's already into volunteering! i tend to believe we're not only citizens of our communities and our country, but also of the world. boundaries of nations don't mean that's where i humanitarian work needs to end. plus, i believe the more we can spread health, sustenance and education through the world, the less strife there will be on a global level.
let us know what happens with your son's teacher/O Ambassadors...
oohhhh....steak burgers....yumm.....
that_girl - cruel cruel cruel! that was like dangling the carrot in front of the horse. or actually, maybe it was more like dangling the T-Bone in front of the new vegan!
xo
LO
Loved this show. Recently, I ran a 1/2 marathon to raise awareness for Blood:Water Mission (http://www.runforbloodwater.com/). They build wells in Africa, among other things.
Oh, and I found the t-shirt change quite odd. Makes me wonder what happened during the commercial break. Wonder if Miss O had a diva moment. I also found it funny that she was wearing a shirt with her name on it. Probably got it from the new O boutique.
laurajeanette! i was thinking the same thing! like someone had to run across the street to the boutique to get her a t-shirt. funny.
congrats on the 1/2 marathon! good for you!
xoLO
Thank you much. It was quite the challenge.
Has anyone read the info about soy slowing down thyroid function and metabolism? Check out the article about Oprah's 21 day cleanse:
http://www.whatbusinesstodo.com/blogs/will_oprahs_21_day_cleanse_diet_work
hey anon, i'm gonna check that out! i actually have the same thyroid condition as oprah, and like her, mine is regulated with medication, so i'm just like a normal gal again! but, this concerns me...i had been trying to cut down a bit on my soy intake (before the cleanse) because of its effect on other hormonal levels such as estrogen. i don't think one more week of this will kill me, but i'm looking forward to getting back to my normal self. having eggs and seafood back will be a big old relief. thanks for the article! best, LO
