Today I learned (again) about the newest potential member of the Blue Man Group - Paul - who drank and rubbed colloidal silver into his skin until he turned into Papa Smurf. Sure, people stare at him, but he seems pretty comfortable in his own skin, so I think that is impressive. I wish I always felt completely at ease with myself and my appearance.
I usually like health related/Dr. Oz shows, but I had a heavy heart today as rerun season seems to have kicked into full gear. I was once again reminded that there was never a full follow-up show for those on the Best Life Challenge, which seemed to be such a huge topic presented at the beginning of the year. I was holding out hope that Oprah would return to the issue, but it's almost as if it never happened. I still receive my Bob Greene emails with occasional tips, but other than that, nada. Did anyone else out there sign that contract and get onboard the BLC train? If so, how do you feel about being left high and dry?
I am on day 8000 of my cleanse. No, I'm joking. It just seems like the 21-Day Cleanse is extending forever. I absolutely don't mind the food (the lack of green tea still bugs me though) when I am eating at home, but this holiday weekend found me out to eat several times and it was a nuisance to order off the menu at certain places. At one restaurant, I actually only had one choice (and had to have several ingredients removed from that item) to order.
I don't actually think I feel better yet. The adjustments were a bit painful for me but now that feeling is subsiding. Last night I made two separate meals for dinner, which was more expensive and time consuming than I'd prefer, but I really liked my meal and look forward to my leftovers today. The jury is still out on how I feel about this assignment, but the challenge is interesting. And it has refreshed an old Oprah assignment about savoring every meal I eat. Because of the newness of my current menu, I'm really tasting and taking time to appreciate everything that passes my lips.

Hey LO! I just wanted to comment somewhere about your current poll question "Do you think Oprah is more content than the average woman?"
I have to say that it surprised me that 42% so far say more, and 35% say same and only 22% (my vote included) said less.
Just seems to me that things like "the bathing suit" comment we've discussed before, along with the constant striving she seems to go through to "live her best life", New Earth, diet, etc. would indicate someone dissatisfied or looking for answers.
IDK, maybe it's just me.
Judi,
I have to agree with you. I feel like Oprah is searching for contentment, without ever finding it. Even with all her $$$, she can't appear in a swim suit. My vote, too was in the 22%.
judi and dawn-michelle, i think you have great points and i have been watching the results of this poll like a hawk, because i'm so curious about people's opinions on the topic. i still think "we" tend to think people who have a huge amount of expendable income to be happier. also, oprah doesn't often show her weaknesses to the public (although as judi pointed out, she does so thru her show's topic choices). thanks so much for the input, gals! xoLO
Hi LO,
Did you see the Today Show this morning? They had a segment about Oprah discussing if Oprah's influence is declining. I thought you would find it interesting. Here's the link, http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/24837005#24837005
It looks like they may have had more discussions about it in the last hour, but I did not see that part.
i went on a cleansing diet and it just made like very difficult to eat at places as well...the only thing i would look forward to was having almond butter in my morning antioxidant protein shakes made from scratch. i still abide by many of the rules, but the cup of cooked veggies every night for dinner just isn't always do-able. however, i looked and felt amazing--that is, about a month into it--after two months i was ready for some french fries.
best of luck with your cleanse.
Hey!
I thought you might be interested on this article on O from the NY Post regarding her cultral influence and it's decline.

Loving your daily blog all the way from New Zealand!
Elisha
mkc, thank you very much. i haven't seen this one. i've been sent a bunch of articles on this topic lately...i wonder how Oprah will respond?
ioio, thanks for the encouragement. i think this will be a good thing, in the long run. you made me laugh about wanting fries after a couple months. (i'll admit my weakness: i wanted to break the rules about ten minutes after agreeing to do the cleanse! haha!)
elisha! great to hear from new zealand. that's exciting for me to know this project is internationally read. how fun! thanks for the article. do you watch the oprah show? is she popular in NZ?
thanks all! have a lovely day,
xoLO
Funnily enough I'm actually from Melbourne, Australia. I started reading your project from the begining while I was living in London but left recently and relocated to Auckland to be with my partner I met over there so, I've followed your blog daily from 3 countries in 3 months!
In London I can tell you that they don't actually screen Oprah, not that I'm aware of anyway although I think it might occasionally be on cable. In Australia it's on weekdays at 1pm in the afternoon and has been ever since I can remember however, I think the episodes are quite a bit behdind yours, we never seem to know what's going to be on or when. We also get O Magazine but because of it having to be exported from the US it costs $20/$25 which I think is ridiculous. I know a lot of women who really want to purchase it but can't justify the cost and I don't blame them, that amount of money for a magazine is crazy!
Since I've been here I've noticed they screen it at the same time as they do on Aust and like there they play Dr Phil at 12pm and Oprah straight after it at 1pm I assume to pull the same audience.
I think Oprah's influence is international, she seems to have the same effect on women here as she does in the US. We probably don't hear about her as much here in the news and such but the influence her show has on women everywhere I believe is much the same.
elisha. wow! i'm honored i was able to keep your attention as you crossed time zones and borders. i have to say, i'm actually surprised there is "more" of oprah on tv in Australia and NZ than there is in England. and i'm floored by the cost of the magazine. a little hint, if you're interested - many of the articles in the magazine end up on the website anyhow.
i find dr. phil horrifying to watch. i think he's so overbearing and obnoxious, he makes me cringe. however, clearly, he's incredibly popular and my opinion might be in the minority. here in the US, Dr. Phil and Oprah are played hours apart and on completely different networks. i've often wondered if O has purposefully removed herself from the controversy he's been causing as of late.
how does Oprah compare in popularity to NZ talk show hosts?
thanks again for your comments!
xoLO
It's been my pleasure, I really enjoy reading about your daily tasks and was fretting for you when the 'Favorite Things' show came up!
I completely agree with you re: Dr Phil, he is completely obnoxious and often hard to stomach. That being said I did enjoy him a lot back in the day when he was on Oprah; back in 97 I believe. I think that was the last time I found Oprah to be in the era 'of the people', since then I believe, like you, that she's lost touch and lost part of her soul along the way.
As for talk show's in NZ, I don't think they actually have their own home-grown shows, a lot of it tends to be exports from the US that fills up daytime TV like Oprah, Dr Phil and also Ellen; other than that, nada! Same also applies to Australia, we have a few day time talk shows there more like morning talk programmes but nothing like Oprah which seems to be the leader in her field.
I'd have to say that a large majority of the programming both here and back home tend to lean towards exported US shows such as sitcoms, variety and talk shows which is quite sad because the effect of it 'Americanizing' our own culture is really becoming apparent in our language and the influence it has on today's teenagers. It has taken over their slang, the way they interact with each other and what they wear - it really is remarkable.
Even in terms of government it's evident with both Prime Ministers here and in Australia running off to fight in a war that has nothing to do with us because good old George Bush's influence is so strong. We even receive more news coverage on the US election than we do in regards to our own government, it's kind of sad really.
elisha, i think that's really sad too - i am almost embarrassed in the proliferation of American media and pop culture on the rest of the world. now, keep in mind, i LOVE me some American pop culture. but, it makes me sad when it pervades borders of other countries, sapping opportunities from artists and entertainers from those nations. and more important than entertainment...thank you for giving us info about Australia and NZ's participation in Bush's war. I really had no idea. hopefully we'll see an ending to that sooner rather than later. all the best, LO
