...I am totally embarrassed to admit that I always get a good laugh out of America's Funniest Videos. Mom, I know as you read this, you are hiding your face in embarrassment. That's right, your high-falutin' artist daughter squeals with delight when she watches a dog chasing its tail maniacally or a little girl who has slathered her baby brother head-to-toe in peanut butter. I'm not one for groin hits or people hurting themselves, but give me some cute kids and animals acting silly and I practically pee my pants laughing.
Yowza! I can't believe I've confessed this to all of you. I must feel a great sense of freedom in the anonymity of this project. I wonder what other mortifying secrets I'll share with you before the year is up. Luckily for you, another appearance by Oprah's gynecologist isn't programmed anytime soon. Who knows what I'd spill about my vajayjay
Besides AFV emcee, Tom Bergeron, Oprah hosted Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. I adore Tina Fey and completely admire her career and talent. It was a real treat for me to see her on the couch this morning. Although, with the awful reviews of "Baby Mama," I'm relieved Oprah didn't tell us all to go out and see it. Besides, I've got my hands full planning a date for my Oprah-assigned "Sex and the City" girl's night out.
I wonder if I'll be able to sleep tonight, knowing that Oprah's Favorite Things for the summer is on tomorrow. We're totally broke these days. Graduate school has wrung us dry. I'm worried about what Oprah might advise we all "need" to have this season. For those of you who are spiritual people...pray for me. Please. Pray for me.

My fav video was the wife who made her husband dances before she would let him into the house or car. How wonderful, sweet, and hilarious!
I'm totally with you about cute animals and kids and not so into people being injured.
Oprah seemed to derived genuine joy from the videos and especially the first half of this show, which was wonderful to see. In the wake of yesterday's discussion about her ability and willingness to connect with people and certain subjects, this show reminded me that it's wonderful to see Oprah enjoy herself and that the show is better when she connects with the subject and us.
I have my fingers crossed that she doesn't suggest the purchase off too many products today! I don't know that I've purchased any of her favorite things in the past, but I've certainly wished that I was in the audience.
Have a wonderful weekend, all! I'm out of the country next week on business and will miss this blog (and watching the show).
I'm a huge AFV fan too! My husband knows that if he hears me laughing out loud at the TV, I must be watching that show. It's funny, because I've loved it since I was a kid, but the kind of videos I liked the most has changed - as a kid it was the groin shots, then I moved onto cute animals for years, and now that I have my own I'm a sucker for the cute baby ones. I'm sure there's a deep motif there about watching your fears/desires/life mirrored in the lives of other ordinary Americans, or maybe we just like to laugh!
I'll be hopeful for you that Oprah takes some of her new-found anti-waste convictions and applies them to this show. Having recently completed grad school myself, I feel your pain!
Thanks (again) LO gal! Now I'm going to watch an episode that I normally wouldn't watch! I'm not a big fan of AFV--the groin hits & such bother me and I'm not a HE! lol
~MTV
AFV is the best show on television.
Hands down.
Sorry Oprah.
And LO, did you hear on that last podcast that Tolle is 60?
60?!!!!
That's enough proof for me, guy is a genius!
Yea! More AFV lovers! I can hold my head up high now!
Betsy - I think the husband dancing video is adorable, too. Especially because it never devolves into an argument - they are both laughing thru the whole video. I also agree with you - Oprah did seem to enjoy the videos! It's almost a relief to watch her when she's relaxed and connected. It makes me so tense when the "other Oprah" is hosting the show. I'll miss your presence next week. Safe travels to you!
Jenn_ky, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that you have informally charted your evolution as an AFV viewer through the ages. That was so charming and I can relate to what you've said! When are we supposed to receive our limitless riches for completing our degrees? That part comes soon, right?
MTV - you crack me up. Did you find any of it funny? Come on, fess up!! : )
Hixx - I KNOW! SIXTY!!! Amazing. I told this to a friend of mine and she shrugged it off saying, "Hobbits age differently than humans." I'll admit, that made me giggle but he still looks GREAT for his age.
Thanks all!

LO-
i do enjoy AFV on occasion!! however, those clips that look painful? poor child hitting mailbox on bike; male adult getting *groined*--THOSE really bother me! i cringe in sympathy pain, i guess! i watched it over the weekend and LOL more than i care to admit; while alone! LOL and watching TV alone is good for the soul.....
MTV
Hobbits, that's funny. Reminds me of a fairly recent episode of "The Office." I can't look at Dwight (Rainn Wilson) and not laugh.
MTV, laughing out loud at TV when you're alone is a total indicator that something is REALLY funny. that's great. and i agree - people getting hurt is just awful to watch...but clearly, those videos appeal to some folks.
laurajeanette, i haven't seen the American version of the office yet! i've seen the whole British series. is it really funny? i would totally netflix it if it's hilarious.
xo
LO
I find it HILARIOUS, but I don't know how it compares to the British version. It takes a couple of episodes to really enjoy it, though, since the jokes are so character driven.
