I appreciate everyone's input on the "should I, or shouldn't I" dilemma when it came to purchasing the Cher tickets. I was in such a tailspin about it. I was poised to purchase the tickets when I was contacted by a friend of mine who is a language teacher. She knows how literally I am taking every word Oprah utters, so she watched the show to see why I was in such a quandary. Here's what she said - first that after listening to Oprah, she believes I punctuated Oprah's words incorrectly. Those of you who read this blog regularly must be SHOCKED that I'm not grammatically PERFECT. Not. Anyway, She said that technically what Oprah said is actually a conditional phase. As in, "IF you want to get tickets, THEN buy them now." I put up a fight and then my mother (a high school language teacher), who knew nothing of my trauma, watched my tape of the show and said the same thing.
So, convinced by my two sources, I decided not to buy the tix. I felt totally calm about it last night but in the cruel light of day...UGH!!! I feel angry at myself. I wanted to prove myself by buying them. Most of the internal turmoil comes from the fact that I don't want to let any of you down, but please rest assured I would absolutely have done it had the two language teachers told me to. Chances are I would have bought the tickets and then sold them on eBay, but I would have bought them.
If you think I'm an ass, go ahead, hit me with your comments. I'm open to hearing what you have to say. But, please do know that I am 100% committed to this project.
To alleviate my guilt and ill-ease about last night, I went out today and bought Barbara Walters' book, Audition today for $29.95. It's enormous and weighs 800 pounds, but I've wanted a new coffee table for a long time.
Today's show on sandwiches contained no assignments. I watched with my parents and noticed they looked eager to hear a challenge added to my list. Alas, no. But, my mother giggled with excitement when she heard a promo for Oprah's upcoming Favorite Things for the summer episode coming soon. I'm guessing I'll finally be able to prove my devotion to Living Oprah when it airs...Watch out debt, here I come!!

Now I want to go back and hear exactly what O said, heehee.
I haven't watched the sandwich show yet, but I can not wait for the Favorite things. Hopefully she will have great products at a decent value (much like last year) - while still limiting her list to 3 or 4 things :) (for your sake)
Just as a pick-me-up, last year more than half of the things on the list were on back order or sold out by the next day. Plus, unless she says "you must go buy this," you're probably off the hook.
Have a good weekend! ~Jax
jax - keep those fingers crossed for me! i'm scared, but oddly excited to see what she says. whoa - really - that much stuff went on backorder because of her recommendations? amazing!
the sandwich show made me hungry. now, why didn't she tell me to make some of those concoctions? i'd have been happy to do it.
have a lovely weekend. enjoy!

ps. watch the summer rerun with Cher. i can always revisit the issue and redeem myself if other language teachers want to challenge my mom and friend!
I'm glad you didn't buy the tickets. I would think the intention behind the words would be that you go see the show (which if it was in your city, I would be pushing for). For that same reason, I think you should use your firepit once before you do something else with it (although that might not work out so well if you are giving it away as a gift). I know it's not going to work on your balcony, but maybe you could take it to a park or beach or something?
How does the favourite things episode work? Does she recommend every product she brings out?
lara, you give good advice, friend. i will absolutely make sure i use the firepit before it goes buh-bye. we have a terrific lakefront in chicago...we're planning on bringing it to the beach and enjoying it.
i'm not sure about the summer fave-things episode. i didn't even know about it until someone mentioned it in a comment (maybe jax?) and then i saw it today on the show. i'm definitely looking forward to it with both excitment and trepidation. i would assume she won't say we need to get EVERYTHING, but i learning not to assume much when it comes to Oprah.

robyn
are you assigned to go see tina in action? if so, then i'm in too!
joie
joie, no...sadly, no tina assignment! she's amazing, isn't she? she's like 68 years old and so much cooler and badass than me! xo
1.) if you bought cher tix i would have to taunt you with singing "do you believe in life after love" every time i saw you from now until eternity.
2.) careful with your back-- that 800 pound babawawa book may be killer.
3.) save up those pennies for her favorite things. i hear some long grove/geneva brownies cost like $24 for one.
Hey LO,
Yes, I did mention it...I think last year may have been her first "summer" favorites. She doesn't have an astronomical amount of things (as she does on the year-end episode) but she does have a bunch of cute things (like beach towels, cover-ups, beach bags, music, etc.). I will definitely keep my fingers crossed for you. :)
I needed to note just one more thing (after finally watching the sandwich show and being very jealous of Gayle) - did you notice how Oprah snubbed Gayle's suggestion about sending that woman something signed (after giving her her t-shirt in NC)? I think O said something like, "You said her name on TV, that's fine..." LOL. I laughed out loud!
tif, i don't think i could bear that torture, although i'm willing to try. i think it would be more tortuous for you to sing it constantly.
jax - i did notice that. it was so weird and snarky! my parents were watching with me and my dad actually said "ew!"
and, you've made me a little less afraid of her summer list. much appreciated!!

I know i'm a little late to the party on this, but I say the English teachers are right. If she said "If you want to see the show, buy your tickets now", then you only have to buy tickets if you wanted to see the show! If you don't want to see it, you are off the hook. However if you really did want to see it but you don't want to spend the money...then you'd have a dilema.
