...of a show I wouldn't have watched if I had the power of choice while Living Oprah this year. I am writing this part of my post before I watch the show. It looks like it will be so horribly sad that I am actually dreading it. I hate watching shows about the death of children. Ok, I'll write more after I watch the episode.
Later...
So, I watched the show and it was really dark, really sad, but also honest and effective. I thought Oprah was really present and emotionally connected to all her guests, too, which was almost a relief to see considering their fragility. I felt as if she were truly taking care of them. I did not realize until I researched the show further that it was a rerun which aired in June of 2006. I believe it was reaired because the accidents described are prevalent in the summer and the show was trying to prevent similar tragedies from taking place
I received a really important Oprah suggestion for today:
"When you think that you're going to get in a car and drive, I want you to think about this mother holding her daughter's head on the side of the highway. That's the thought I want to come to your mind before you go to get in the car after having even one drink."
Really weighty advice. I was impressed that this was the show that was chosen to bookend the holiday weekend and not the Favorite Things episode. In this way, I thought more emphasis was placed on the importance of life, rather than things. I wonder if the rest of the year is programmed in a similar fashion.

Love your experiment!
I will never forget this episode, ever. Part of me wishes I never saw it but I understand why she wanted to air and re-air it.
