Affordable is in the eye of the spender

Today, Oprah's rerun has a few segments - the first being Vera Wang who has a more affordable line of clothing at Kohl's. I have to be honest, yes, it's obviously cheaper than buying a real Vera article of clothing, but on my budget, $128 is a bit much when it comes to the purchase a light coat. So, while Oprah was blown away by how 'cheap' the Simply Vera line is, I'm still left planning my next trip to Target and Marshall's and hoping for the best. I did notice that Oprah said much more positive things about Vera's line than she did Sarah Jessica Parker. She really doesn't seem to lie - if she doesn't like something, she's not going to say she does. I like that about her.

She also had Julie Taymor, the director of "Across the Universe" on. I'm a big fan of Taymor. I think she's a pretty tough, creative woman and I have nothing but admiration for her career. I haven't seen "Across the Universe" yet, but Oprah has given me an assignment, "Across the Universe is available on DVD. Make an appointment with your friends to go see...you will love it." Okie doke. I'll be checking out my calendar tonight to come up a movie date. Maybe this can be an Oprah-inspired party, unveiling some of my Oprah-advocated redecoration, maybe wear a new Oprah-approved outfit, cook some Oprah-recommended food from the Best Life recipe book. Sounds like Oprah-riffic fun.

I'll admit, I'm totally excited to try on my white jeans tonight. My husband is bringing them home after work. The anticipation and the silliness surrounding the whole white denim situation has been so amusing. Plus, all your comments have been hysterical. I have promised you photos and I will deliver this weekend.

I randomly came across your blog this week and I have to say that I am so excited - I have always wanted to sit and compile a list of "according to Oprah" and this is very much close to it! It has been a lot of fun reading your posts. I haven't watched today's rerun but I am very much looking forward to it now :). I'd be curious to know what you've spent for the first quarter of the year (at the end of March)? Thanks again for the entertaining break!

I can totally relate about the price. If I spend over $100 I have outfits, not just one item and I don't think I dress like a shlumpadinka either. By the way, I really enjoy your blog. I watch Oprah all the time too and reference parts of the show in different occassions, "On Oprah, Dr Oz said..." or at work we dicussed the divorce episode because of a student that is in the middle of his parent's divorce battle. My husband teases me about it but admits he has learned a lot of interesting things (he usually uses the computer while I am immersed in Oprah) so everday he asks me, are you going to watch Oprah now? Keep up the great work, I can't wait to see the pictures.

Jax - I am going to do a ""quarterly report" and will absolutely make it public for all to see. Thanks a ton for the support.

Sharon - sorry to disappoint my new white jeans are way to lightweight to bear up under the Chicago cold snap we're having! Don't worry - you'll be seeing them soon enough.

Gina - Hear, hear! I totally think we can look great without spending a fortune, don't you? My mom raised me to think that the more of a bargain you got on a great outfit, the better you look!
