Huh! I always thought it was a reflection of my eccentricity as an artist. However, Oprah's clutter-clearing crackerjack, Peter Walsh, seems to be telling me that a pile of books is NOT a coffee table. Excuse me a moment while I remove my cup of tea from Tolle's, A New Earth. Blasphemy!
Ok, now that my book club selection is safe from rings of chai, I'll say I absolutely agree with Walsh's opinion that our clutter/organization is an outward expression of underlying issues in our lives. It's definitely evident in mine. In all the public spaces in my home...anywhere a guest might be entertained, one would never guess that behind closed doors, my closets and home office are untidy jungles of bottomless stuff. I say stuff because I have no clarity when it comes to what is making my storage spaces close to bursting. So, if I am to take Walsh's postulation literally, I can diagnose myself with a lack of coherence and definition in my personal life.
I'm not so sure I agree with that 100%. But I suppose that could be denial. I could look it up in my Intro to Psych book from college, but I'm not sure what closet it's buried in.
But I digress.
And will again, but this time intentionally...
Have you noticed every expert guest/panel this week has used the phrase "live your best life?" Do you think they were coached to do so? I found that interesting. Everyone said it with a little nod to Oprah. Just a little observation I was curious about. I'm also curious about whether or not Oprah is living her "best life." From the outside, looking in, she seems to have it all, but I have to wonder how she'd rank herself in this blog's Poll of the Week.

In response to your question about Oprah living her best life, I have a question, and I don't mean this to be disrepectful or catty.
Is it living your best life when someone gives you a birthday present and you don't notice it sitting there (i.e., the bubbles with the Tiffany bubble blower)?
ok. again, y'all make me laugh! i read this one out loud to my husband and he thought it was hilarious.
so, i looked it up - oprah's birthday was january 29th. and i'm not sure when that particular show (that aired 2/6) was shot. now, i'm not trying to make excuses for oprah at all, but i'm glad, at least, that her birthday wasn't 6 months ago.

I had to comment on the references to "living your best life". I think all of Oprah's experts/guests realize it is in their best interest to relate their area of expertise to the Best Life Plan Oprah has embraced for 2008. When Jenny McCarthy has Oprah's picture on her vision board because she knows an endorsement of her book will guarantee Best Seller-dom... things are a little out of control. I see all of this leading to an eventual demise of Oprah's endorsement value.
Today as I went into the fridge at work and pulled out a much-too-large piece of leftover birthday cake and began devouring it, my assistant (who witnessed the signing of my Best Life Challenge) gave me a look. I replied "Get out of here. Can't you see I'm busy living my best life??"
ha ha ahaaha! I thought the same thing about Oprah not noticing the present. I was like "how rude!"
Yes, it seems like the guest were all coached to say "live your best life". I wonder if that was written into their contract.
