I Baracked the Vote and then dosed up on Vitamin D

And how was your morning?

I love voting. I always insist on getting my voting receipt and then I use it as a bookmark for months. It seemed to be a very Obama heavy crowd at my polling place this morning. But then again, I live in Chicago, so this shouldn't come as a huge surprise. I wonder how Oprah's campaigning served him in California? The returns should be very interesting tonight. Can't wait. Now, THAT will be worthwhile reality television!

When I got home, I watched l'show. Today's Oprah was all about living longer AND younger. Why, I thought, I'd sure like to live longer and younger! Hit me with the advice, O! It was a Dr. Oz day, which is always a favorite for me. I am kind of a health-junkie, too, so I sat eagerly, notebook in hand, ready to learn how I can have the body of a 21-year old again. Of course, much of what we heard was what we've all heard before, but Oprah's style always seems to make the advice clearer and easier to swallow.

Here's my ASSIGNMENT OF THE DAY, STRAIGHT FROM THE LIPS OF OPRAH: "…if you want to stay healthy…start earlier…let's start with what should be in your refrigerator" (This was followed by a list of groceries and vitamins I am sending my husband to buy after work. Thanks, babe!) and "It's simple, people. If you follow Dr. Oz's ultimate anti-aging…and Dr. Roizen's…ultimate anti-aging checklist, you'll feel better, you'll look better, you'll be healthier and could actually help you live longer."

WOW! That sounds almost like a guarantee to me. Forget living longer, as committed as I am to following Oprah's "best life" advice, I might end up immortal. Just Zeus and me, hangin' on Mount Olympus, sipping our blueberry anti-oxidant shakes, watching Oprah's Big Give on ABC. Sweet.

Now, I have to get serious for a moment, folks. It's about Dr. Oz's super quick description and display of yoga. So, what I haven't mentioned on this site, thus far, is that I make my living as a certified yoga teacher. Not for nothin' - but I think a total beginner is likely to hurt herself if she jumped in and did what Oz did (with REALLY iffy alignment, by the way) without the guidance of a qualified teacher. I agree with him about the great effects of yoga on the body and mind, but his description was simplistic and could lead to injuries if folks aren't careful. And Dr. Oz is not correct, heels on the floor is absolutely not necessary in downward dog. Oy! Be careful if you try those sun salutations, everyone!

Namaste,
LO
