This weekend I did about 4 hours of shopping to knock some stuff off the must-haves list (from 2/20/08 show) but couldn't find anything. When I asked a salesperson at a well-known store that has lots and lots of jeans if they had white denim, the guy looked at me like I asked if they carried leisure suits. He scoffed at me (yes, I've now experienced being scoffed at) and suggested I try another store. I also tried on a number of tunics but couldn't help feeling they made me look like Bea Arthur so I didn't make any purchases. This is my first time spinning my wheels on an Oprah project and so I have to head out shopping again today. A little tidbit of info about me: I. Don't. Like. Shopping.
As soon as I find my sneakers, I'm heading to the gym to do my Best Life Challenge workout of the day and then I'll do my shopping. I can't find anything this morning as we're in the midst of rearranging almost every room in our home. Nate Berkus' advice (on the 1/10/08 show) taught us that our rooms are not laid out in a way that is entirely pleasing to us, so we're making some modifications. My sig-o kindly moved furniture back and forth wherever I pointed as we adjusted all our living spaces. We actually also managed to collect some more clutter (using advice from 2/07/08 show) that we'll either donate or sell. So, while this took about 3.5 hours, we had the Oscars to distract us from the pain of moving stuff around. We've got a lot of work to do still, but tonight Oprah has ordered that we watch "Raisin in the Sun" with a bowl of popcorn, so we have a brief hiatus from decorating.
Today's show with guest Valerie Bertinelli was one I could just sit back and watch without worrying about assignments. BUT THEN, when I least expected it, Bertinelli was talking about one of the tools she uses to lose weight. It's called a walk vest and she puts weights in it so when she and her husband walk around, they'll burn more calories. Oprah told us "Walk vest. So get that thing." I will, Oprah. I will get that thing. I wonder how it will match with my white jeans and leopard print flats.

Two kinds of white jeans at Penneys. Who knew?
and a jean jacket, at J.Crew.
Here's a great tunic (on sale!). The white color is great for spring and summer and a white or brightly colored tank will look great underneath.

ok. you guys rock. thank you for the help. i just did another 1.5 hrs of shopping and couldn't find anything in my price range that fit. EXCEPT for the horrible leopard print flats! 7 bucks at marshalls. woohoo! i think i clearly have to save time by doing this online. thanks for the advice. xo LO
LO... I think all the shopping is making you manic. Are you really planning to purchase the vest? I don't think Oprah gave a directive to purchase the walking vest. I'm worried for you. That sounds like an item that will soon be purged as a result of decluttering. :)
I'm very jealous to hear of your $7 leopard flats at Marshall's. I actually wanted some of those before last week's show!
This blog is great. I'm really fascinated to see what happens.
LO, I, too, do. not. like. shopping. Give you huge credit for taking Oprah's advice on the wardrobe thing, especially the white jeans and shoes. Reading your progress is like watching a movie of sorts and kind of predicting the ending. Like Christy, I am concerned for you and where this is all leading you. Thanks for including us in your journey. We'll be with you through the end of this experiment!
Thanks for your concern and help, everyone. It is relieving to know there's support out there! Intellectually, I knew what I was getting into with this project, but there is definitely stress I wasn't prepped for. Still, there are some tasks I enjoy, so that makes up for the trauma of spending more hours shopping in the past month than I have for ages and ages.
Christy, depending on how much you want to shell out for flats and exactly what you want - a friend let me know there are some on the Target website for 15 bucks. Enjoy!
theres also a company that makes a weight vest made in the usa that has pockets and comes in colors for women i think its called jmfit and you could probably find it on the web
